ABOUT TROUPE #10941

Nestled in the heart of Houston's South Park, the Ross Shaw Sterling Players Thespian Troupe #10941 has long been a beacon of creativity and excellence in high school theatre. This remarkable troupe's journey began in 1987, when the indefatigable Yvonne J. Phillips-Dupree established it with a vision to nurture raw talent and inspire young artists to reach their full potential. For two decades, Phillips-Dupree's unwavering dedication transformed the Sterling Players into a powerhouse of theatrical brilliance, achieving numerous victories and setting an unparalleled standard of performance.

Under Phillips-Dupree's leadership, the Sterling Players became synonymous with innovation and excellence. Her tenure saw the troupe win countless accolades, making it a formidable presence in the world of high school theatre. Each production under her guidance was not just a performance, but a masterclass in passion, precision, and artistic excellence. Her retirement in 2007 marked the end of an era, but the foundation she laid was robust and enduring.

In the wake of Phillips-Dupree’s departure, the torch was passed to Evette Mason-Ferguson, a distinguished alumna and former president of the Sterling Players. Mason-Ferguson, embodying the spirit and legacy of her predecessor, took the helm with a fervent commitment to maintaining the troupe's high standards. Her leadership ensured that the Sterling Players continued to soar, achieving new heights and expanding their artistic horizons. Each production during her tenure was a testament to the enduring legacy of excellence that had been established.

However, the unexpected onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 dealt a severe blow to the Sterling Players. The vibrant and dynamic program, once a hub of constant activity and creativity, faced an unprecedented halt. The momentum that had been built over decades came to a screeching stop, and the troupe found itself grappling with the challenges of a rapidly changing world. The decline was swift and disheartening, as the pandemic’s impact was felt deeply within the walls of Ross Shaw Sterling High School.

In 2022, in a dramatic turn of events, the Sterling Players were poised for a resurgence. The appointment of Trey Morgan Lewis as the new head of the department marked a pivotal moment in the troupe’s history. With his visionary leadership and the support of the dedicated Ms. Jessica "Jaye" Johnson, the Sterling Players embarked on a journey of revival and renewal. Lewis brought with him a fresh perspective and an unyielding determination to restore the troupe to its former glory.

Under Lewis’s dynamic direction, the Sterling Players achieved a historic milestone by being inducted into the prestigious International Thespian Society. This recognition was more than just an accolade; it was a testament to the resilience and undying spirit of the troupe. The induction signified a new era of opportunity, opening doors for the Sterling Players to showcase their talent on a global stage.

In a bold and ambitious move, the Sterling Players mounted their first-ever musical production, a spectacular endeavor that marked the beginning of a new chapter. The production was not just a performance; it was a powerful statement of revival and resilience. It showcased the troupe’s unwavering commitment to artistic excellence and their ability to overcome adversity.

Today, as the Sterling Players rebuild and rekindle their momentum, the fire of passion and creativity burns brighter than ever. The legacy of Yvonne J. Phillips-Dupree and the enduring spirit of Evette Mason-Ferguson continue to inspire every member of the troupe. With Trey Morgan Lewis and Jessica "Jaye" Johnson at the helm, the Sterling Players are poised to achieve even greater heights. The stage is set, the curtain is rising, and the Ross Shaw Sterling Players Thespian Troupe #10941 stands ready to captivate audiences with their extraordinary talent and indomitable spirit. The future holds boundless possibilities, and the Sterling Players are determined to seize them with both hands, ensuring that their story of triumph and tenacity continues to be told for generations to come.
